Eva Colombo, Lilith’s mirror

Eva Colombo, Lilith’s mirror
The moon is Lilith’s mirror, the rays of the sun at sunset are the teeth of her comb. Remember these words, remember them as something beautiful to think of when you are unable to sleep, like a Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s painting or a Led Zeppelin song. Remember October 24, 1970. Below the horizon, Lilith seized the moon like a mirror and brought it near her face. Just above the horizon, the dying sun moved our souls and showed our shadows the way of the rebirth. All of a sudden Lilith was there, on the road which wound in front of us: white like the moon, red like the sun at sunset, beautiful like something that can be held in dreamland only. She was walking towards us and at each step she seemed to stir up the wind, a wind which whispered a tune cold like the moon in the October sky, burning like the autumn leaves at sunset. But when it seemed to us possible to skim her, Lilith wound herself like a snake around a tree trunk and vanished. You rushed at that tree which in the last light of sunset was like gold and you scratched your hands against its bark and you felt your hands stained with the juice of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. With your blood – stained fingers you wrote your name on the hedge of the road, then the sun fell behind the horizon and you fell with the sun. The moon rose, read your name and smiled: she was aware that your shadow knew the way of the rebirth.
